Another Grand day out!

oooh! Its that time of year again! Spring has sprung, rains have swollen the rivers and there is time off work to go check out new runs. The other day we headed over to Eksingedale to try to run a river we rarely see with water. Eksingedale is an amazing valley, starting with a well know 'Lake to Lake' drop the river then flows over 5 ridiculously large waterfalls before flowing to what we hoped would be a runnable section! Little did we know....

That the river was in flood! Normally through the summer you can drive this road and inspect the 5 huge waterfalls, then drive on with your tail between your legs. Just after the last 'big one' the river is diverted down a tube and powers several hundred houses somewhere in Norway. The other day though things were different!

Our thought was that in spring flows we might find enough water that it might be overflowing the tube and running down the river bed to make a 1st descent possible! To our astonishment it appeared the gates were open on the diversion dam and the full flow was heading down the riverbed like and avalanche. We were thinking there just might be enough to get down, but what we found was full on and far from runnable, even on a brave day ;-) We decided to scout and come back later when it would hopefully be a manageable flow.

These are some of the fall you get to scout and speculate over - all are much larger than they look and have not bee run!

We will for sure be back to this valley when the rivers drop, be for now we had to be content with a run on the Teigdales Elve - The showpiece of Western Norway's rivers. This is our local 'Balls Out' adrenalin run, a grand day of waterfalls, slides and exciting lines all ending in the mighty Double Drop.

Here a little tast of the action! - mov teigdale-2007 8.90 Mb
